Tax and succession planning lawyer, Joan Jung, spoke on "The Preferred Share Rules and the Private Corporation" at the Ontario Tax Conference on October 23, 2017.
Joan's session helped to clarify how the preferred share rules can apply to private corporations and outlined a selection of potential traps including problems with the substantial interest exemption and how seemingly garden-variety common shares might be characterized as taxable preferred shares.
The conference was held at the Delta Hotels Toronto Airport & Conference Centre on October 23 to 24 and was also accessible by webinar.
