The Glenn Gould Foundation honoured Ninth Glenn Gould Prize Laureate, Leonard Cohen, in a spectacular gala concert and ceremony May 14, 2012 at Massey Hall.
The Glenn Gould Prize is awarded to an individual for a unique lifetime contribution that has enriched the human condition through the arts. The Glenn Gould Prize promotes the vital connection between artistic excellence and the transformation of lives. Each Glenn Gould Prize Laureate also chooses an outstanding young artist to receive The City of Toronto Glenn Gould Protégé Prize.
This year, the 9th Glenn Gould Award was granted to an outstanding global, musical, figure, Leonard Cohen. Leonard Cohen is a renowned singer, songwriter, poet, author and visual artist. The $50,000.0 prize received by Leonard Cohen was donated by him to Canada Council for the Arts to assist young artists.
The City of Toronto gave a $15,000.00 award to The Glenn Gould Protégé Program which, in turn, was awarded to Sistema, a musical program developed in Venezuela to teach music to young, poor students in a high school in Toronto.
Great artists including John Prine, James McMurtry, etc., who volunteered to sing Leonard Cohen's songs, culminating with the finale by Adam Cohen, Leonard's son, a rising musical artist in his own right.

Stephen Posen, a Senior Partner, was appointed by Glenn Gould as his Executor and to act for both his Estate and his Foundation. Stephen has played a leadership role in all these events since Glenn Gould's death for over three decades.
