Tim is Chair of our Insolvency Group. His practice focuses primarily in the areas of insolvency law, debtor/creditor rights, financial reorganization and debtor restructuring, secured financing transactions, Personal Property Security Act matters, and resolution of commercial disputes. His clients include the stakeholders affected by or involved in formal and informal insolvency proceedings and financial restructuring, including lenders, debtors, suppliers and other trade creditors, landlords, property managers, trustees in bankruptcy, private, court-appointed and interim receivers, and court-appointed monitors.
Tim has particular expertise in advising special loans departments of lending institutions and, in particular, designing and negotiating complex refinancing and restructuring agreements including forbearance arrangements for businesses experiencing financial difficulties and negotiating sales by or purchases from receivers and trustees in bankruptcy. Tim has acted for stakeholders in many insolvency situations involving the retail, manufacturing, transportation, high tech, and automotive sectors.
Clients come to Tim because he is able to provide practical business solutions to crisis situations. By using a holistic approach rather than focusing only on the law, he enables clients to make immediate intelligent decisions. Tim deals with companies in their most vulnerable time and with more than 20 years experience he is able to provide proven guidance and commitment to ensure the best possible outcome for his clients.
Tim is a frequent lecturer at professional institutes, legal associations, and banking and business community programmes.
Tim’s other passion is flying. He is a private pilot, rated in single engine land and sea planes. Tim is currently hoping to earn his instrument rating later this year and his commercial pilot license in 2017.
