Property Assessment and Taxation Law
The Minden Gross LLP Property Assessment and Taxation Law Group provides legal advice and representation on property assessment and municipal taxation issues. This hybrid area complements our real estate, commercial leasing and litigation groups.
Our lawyers are advocates for commercial landlords, tenants, developers, property managers and financial institutions on property assessment and tax matters with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation, the Assessment Review Board and the Superior Court of Ontario.
We pursue applications for property tax exemptions, vacancy and charitable tax rebates, ethno-cultural tax rebates and other forms of tax grants. We provide realty tax estimates and verify tax appeal adjustments and tax billing calculations.
In commercial leasing, our expertise lies in drafting and interpreting realty tax clauses in leases and ensuring they align with our client’s tax recovery goals while conforming to the current legislative assessment scheme. We also represent clients in disputes relating to realty tax allocations for landlords and tenants.
